Spanish Flu in Hull in 1918-19

This talk is now available online - please click link above

The Spanish Flu was arguably one of the worst pandemics that the world has ever seen. Just over a century ago more people lost their lives to this virus than the entire war deaths of both the First and Second World Wars combined. And this harvest of death took place in just one year throughout the world; from the trenches of the Western Front to the Pacific Island of Samoa, from Australia to Zanzibar and from New York, Paris, London, Rome….and Hull.

This talk will outline the history of this pandemic with especial emphasis upon its effects upon Hull. From contemporary accounts this talk will show how Hull; its citizens and the relevant authorities coped with the greatest apocalypse of the modern era.
