16 The Victoria Dock Railway and Extensions

- Speaker Michael Free

15 Whitefriargate, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU1 2ER

The Victoria Dock Railway was opened in 1853 to connect Hull's Town Docks with the Victoria Dock on the East side of the river Hull.

It quickly became one of the first commuter lines in the country and was probably the first to introduce a system of 'flat fares'

Unfortunately it was not successful and passenger traffic ceased. But it was granted a new lease of life with the opening of the lines to Withernsea and Hornsea.

Come and take a nostalgic trip along the lines which were used by commuters and thousands of holiday makers and day visitors to the coast.
